Arden Grange Adult Large Breed review

This one lands level with the field, in our Good band alongside the typical adult dry food. The joint doses and clean declarations pull it up; a modest meat share and a carbohydrate load slightly past the category norm hold it back. For a large, chicken-happy dog whose owner mainly wants dosed joint support in the daily bowl, that trade can still make good sense.

Ingredients, as declared: Chicken (chicken meat meal 25%, fresh chicken 5%), rice (25%), maize, refined chicken oil, beet pulp, chicken digest, whole dried egg, yeast, krill, whole linseed, minerals, glucosamine (740mg/kg), MSM (740mg/kg), prebiotic FOS, prebiotic MOS, chondroitin (520mg/kg), yucca extract, cranberries, nucleotides.

Chicken arrives as meat meal at 25% with fresh chicken at 5%. Meal is dried, concentrated protein, so the ordering is sensible. The totals stay moderate though: protein finishes at 24%, or 26.1% of dry matter, and estimated carbohydrate converts to 48.4% of dry matter, a little past the 46.2% category norm. Rice at 25% and maize are doing much of the carrying.

The joint package is the reason this recipe exists, and it is properly declared: glucosamine at 740 mg/kg, MSM at 740 mg/kg and chondroitin at 520 mg/kg. Printed doses are exactly what you want to see on a large breed label, where joint claims are so often left as bare ingredient names.

Krill supplies marine omega 3s with whole linseed covering the plant side, whole dried egg adds a complete protein, and beet pulp with prebiotic FOS and MOS keeps digestion ticking over. Chicken digest is a palatant, there to keep the bowl appealing day after day.

Calcium converts to 1.52% of dry matter, a controlled figure that matters on a food for heavy-boned dogs. The declared vitamin list is short, vitamins A, D3 and E, with everything else folded into a general minerals entry.

Bags run 2kg, 6kg, a 4 x 2kg multipack, a 12kg with a 2kg alongside, and a 28kg double sack.

On our usual basis of around 840 kcal a day for a 15kg adult in moderate condition (110 × bodyweight^0.75), the daily serving is about 222 grams. The label's own table begins with 20 to 25kg dogs on 235 to 280 grams and climbs from there.
